They recognize that being financially stable is important in being able to live the lives they dream about. They want to enter adulthood informed and from a solid jump off point. They say that adulthood and personal finances are scarier than a visit to the dentist. And most all feel ill-equipped.
They know at least one person who is in financial trouble, often it is someone in their own family. When asked if they know someone who is a good financial role model, they struggle to think of someone. They are afraid to speak about money because of the issues and tensions that arise. So they suffer in silence.
Reports confirm that they are not equipped to step into adulthood with an ability to successfully manage their finances. Within months of turning 18, they get credit cards and banking products both which have increased in complexities and financial penalties. Being uninformed, they know they are susceptible to making mistakes.
But know that they have a desire to become financially literate. They want to know how to get money, how to keep it and what to do with it. They want to be successful. They want to be able to increase their pay. They want to be money smart and financially responsible.
They just don't know how to start, what to ask or what they need to learn. Our programs could be the answer.
P.S. As for the few who are not worried about the future, they say they'll continue to do what works for them... going to Mom & Dad!
